Alan Combs, a McCrory’s employee, stacked fountain stools at the recently closed store prior to shipping them to a buyer in Columbus, Ohio, in January 1981. The variety store at 110 E. Main Street had closed. “It’s just another case of high rent, low sales,” said Bob Donahue, manager. Donahue said McCrory’s had no plans to open another store in Lexington.
